Folk Art

Madhubani paintings

Madhubani art, also known as Mithila art, originates from the Mithila region spanning India and Nepal, specifically named after Bihar’s Madhubani district. This traditional painting style employs brushes, nib pens, twigs, matchsticks, and fingers, utilizing natural dyes and pigments. Originally crafted on household walls by Mithila women, these intricate artworks now grace paper and canvas. Madhubani paintings showcase diverse themes such as geometric patterns, narratives from the Ramayana and Mahabharata, various deities, animals, and birds.
